The Happy River
According to Andrew Embick, Alaska's legend of river exploration, "the Happy River is a magical wilderness river of moderate difficulty which traverses a variety of dramatic terrain." For us at Too-loo-uk, the Happy has lived in our dreams for a number of years, and we are hoping to make 2008 the summer when our dreams become your reality. Fly-in past the soaring--ice enfolded peaks of Mt. Foraker and Denali to the north, while the jagged--granite of the Cat's Eye Spires project into the sky close by. Wildlife is abundant in the surrounding hills and mountains of this crystal clear stream and will make our hiking trips all the more enjoyable. To go with the grizzlies and Dall sheep, the river itself is full of life in the form of all five species of Pacific salmon, along with Arctic Greyling and Rainbow Trout. With so many incredible features, a multi-day trip on the Happy could be nothing less than "magical".
